Fat to Fit 20 January 2011

Here I am again doing Fat to Fit with Lucy. I haven’t participated since 16 December and surprisingly I survived Christmas / New Year etc. with a gain of only 600gms.  ONLY 600 gms, you say? Well I’m proud of it.  I’m sure it could have been a lot worse.

fat2fit

Last time my goals were:
  1. To finish tidying the family room.  Do I sound like a broken record yet?  If this does not occur there will be no Christmas Tree! DONE!!! Admittedly the tree did go up quite late but it still went up and the family room was clean briefly.
  2. Use the treadmill for 20 plus minutes or walk the dogs 4 days of the week . Ah, no.  Let’s move on shall we?  Actually, I did do part of the Zumba game twice and played a Fighting game twice as well.  Muscles ach after that.
  3. Go to bed before 10.30 pm at least 3 nights of the week. Done.
  4. Try to eat less processed food. Have salad stuff to eat for lunch and will aim for at least 3 days for that. Yes, I managed to do this for about 2 weeks and while I was away I did it as well.  Just don;t ask me about the food while driving.
  5. Play with / spend some quality time with the children. YES!!! I did it and have kept doing it.  Although I am struggling trying to get Girl Child to understand that I actually do need to work (paid work) as well as play with her.
So all in all not too bad.  And better than I expected, in parts.
My aims for this week are:
  1. To keep the Family Room tidy.
  2. Exercise on the Treadmill, by playing the Zumba or Fighting games or by walking the dogs at least 4 times a week.
  3. Go to bed before 10.30 pm at least 3 nights of the week. I’m having a lot of trouble sleeping again so this is a priority.
Yes, I know it’s a short list but I’m tired.  Good Night All.

Fat to Fit 16 Dec 2010

The last time I did this I was a little confused and apparently trying to get from Fit to Fat.  Well that's what my title was anyway.  I plead sickness and sheer stupidity lack of proof reading!

fat2fit

Last time my goals were:

  1. To finish tidying the family room, yes again! Fail!
  2. Try to walk to school or use the treadmill for 20 plus minutes 4 days of the week, if well enough. Fail although not completely. I did walk at least twice.
  3. Go to bed before 10.30 pm at least 3 nights of the week. Success!  Okay illness may have had a lot to with that.
  4. Try to eat less processed food. Have salad stuff to eat for lunch and will aim for at least 3 days for that. Success!  I had salad sandwiches and wraps a few times.
  5. If I still feel like crud, seek medical advice.  I was told by 3 different people this morning to go to the Dr as I have now been sick for about 3 weeks and apparently sound just as bad as I did last Friday. Success again.  Okay, I actually went to the Dr twice and the second time got different antibiotics and a repeat as the first lot didn’t help much.

Wow, not as bad as I thought.  I have now also lost a total of 800g!  WOOT! Which according to MyDr .com.au means I only need to lose 9kgs exactly to get to a BMI of 25. Now that BMI calculator lets you put in decimals which I like.  Also they say 25 is normal and overweight starts at a BMI of 26.

My aims for this week are:

  1. To finish tidying the family room.  Do I sound like a broken record yet?  If this does not occur there will be no Christmas Tree!
  2. Use the treadmill for 20 plus minutes or walk the dogs 4 days of the week .
  3. Go to bed before 10.30 pm at least 3 nights of the week.
  4. Try to eat less processed food. Have salad stuff to eat for lunch and will aim for at least 3 days for that.
  5. Play with / spend some quality time with the children.

What are you going to do for yourself?

Day 4 of November NaBloPoMo

So do I join Lucy’s Fat to Fit Blog Hop?

fat2fit

Do I do Day 8 of the Self Actualisation Project? It’s about my short term goals.

Or do I say stuff it and go to bed?  After all it is 10.30pm and I’m tired.

Actually, I think I’m going to do the first two followed very quickly by the third.

So here we go.

Remember this post about my bad habits? Where I let everyone know how much I procrastinate and explains why the house is a mess and I failed dismally at Op Anniversary…

Well, I remember.  And I’m going to make a change.  I was looking thought some old photo’s and can see how tidy the house was when Boy Child was a baby and how much better I looked too.  So I am going to focus on cleaning up.  My house, my head and my body.  I am planning on spending tomorrow making the family room a welcoming place for people (not stuff!) and I hope that that will help the get into the head space for kick starting Op Anniversary again.  At this point I am hoping to be back fitter and healthier before Christmas.

Every week on her blog, Adalita lists the things she did in the previous week and the things she plans to do and change in the upcoming week.I think that’s a great idea and it may even help me be more accountable.  Actually,Listen to teh  even vaguely accountable would be good.

My aims for this week are:

  1. To tidy the family room
  2. Finish folding the current clean washing (it’s much smaller than it was) and put it (or have it put in the respective rooms
  3. Start cutting back on the caffeine (yes again!) 3 cups per day is plenty.  And probably more than enough.
  4. Do some more exercise.  At least 4 days in the week walk to / from school or use the treadmill for 20 – 30 minutes.
  5. Go to bed before 10.30 on 3 nights.

So what do you think about those as short term goals?

Bad habits…

This is Day 4 of the Self Actualisation challenge. The topic is write about a habit you wish you didn't have.

Ah, I thought this one will be a cinch.  While I really don’t drink, have never actually smoked more than a few puffs and don’t gamble, I have lots of other bad habits.  Problem is which one to choose?  Which ONE out of the many do I wish I didn't have?

Should I write that I like to keep things?  I kept all of Boy Child clothes from Size 0000 and up and even after Girl Child wore them I still kept them? The only reason they are no longer in my house is because of the devastating Victorian Bushfires in 2009, commonly referred to as Black Saturday.  I donated 6 huge garbage bags worth of outgrown children's clothing.  It would have been more be my cousins have girls younger than my Girl Child and they get hand me downs of Girl Child’s clothes.

Should I write about the pile of clean washing on a lounge? It seems to grow exponentially every few days and even when it’s folded it never seems to go anywhere.

Should I write (once again) about the fact that I love chocolate and seem to have redeveloped my coffee habit?  I had cut back on both but it seems that they have insidiously crept back in to my life.

dreamstimefree_74362 - coffee & chocolate cake Image from Dreamstime

I will spare you all of those and talk about the thing that is the root of all evil many issues in my life.  My ability to procrastinate.  That is what has helped cause the mountain of clean washing and the re-emergence of the coffee and chocolate into my life. That is what caused Op Anniversary to fail dismally the first time around. And explains how I had somehow kept years worth of outgrown children’s clothes in my house.

So, I procrastinate.  A lot.  So that is the bad habit that I wish I didn't have.  Because if I didn't procrastinate so much the mountain of washing would be put away, OP Anniversary would have been a complete success and I would be wearing my wedding ring for the first time in 7 years and perhaps I would feel comfortable enough invite people over.

I just did an online quiz and apparently I am….

A Perfectionist.

You are the perfectionist procrastinator. Perfectionists fear failure or not doing a good enough job. They suffer from too high standards. Lest it be less than perfect, perfectionists have trouble starting or finishing a project. However, if the procrastinator does not get an "A," the fact that he or she did not give him or herself enough time to properly do the project excuses the procrastinator from not having done a perfect job. "If I had started earlier..." is a common lament from the perfectionist trying to excuse him or herself.

Yes, I can see that.  If I don’t try, I can’t fail (or can’t screw it up) is exactly how my brain works. I really  need to to do something about this because both Boy and Girl seem to have the same trait.

So what are your tips to beat procrastination?  Are you like me and don’t start something in case it’s not right or not perfect? How have you beaten the procrastination bug? I need help!

15 facts about me - Self Actualisation Project 2010

Joanie has begun a Self Actualisation Project that a friend of hers posted on Facebook. Given I’m almost up to my first anniversary of Blogging I thought I would join in.  Maybe some navel gazing introspection will be good for me.  Now because I’m not into putting up recent photo’s of myself or my family I will have to work something out for those tasks.

So for Day 1, the challenge is to post a recent picture of me and 15 facts about myself.

For this one the recent picture is easy.  Here is me at the chocolate party I went to in August.

.Choc Party

The 15 facts about myself (nobody said that had to be new facts did they?) are:

  1. I love chocolate.
  2. I really love my family but sometimes they come second to chocolate.
  3. I wanted to call this blog For the Love of Chocolate but apparently someone else on blogger had the same idea. :(
  4. I was excited that school went back today.  Very excited and also relieved.
  5. Number 4 makes me feel bad.  I feel as though I should enjoy the time I have with my children (which I do) but sometimes I struggle.  I worry that I am a bad mother because of this.
  6. In fact I often worry that I am a bad mother.  Hell, I worry about a lot of things: do I have friends?, will Boy ever eat like NT people?, but most of all Am I a bad mother? which goes hand in hand with Am I screwing my kids up?. Mr E. calls my worrying (or maybe it’s me expecting the worst) paranoia.  I call it realism.
  7. Yes, I am a glass half empty kind of girl. That may have been obvious from Number 6 but I thought I should mention it just in case you missed it.
  8. I thought perhaps if this Self Actualisation thing was going to work I should actually REALISE stuff about myself and not just put down smart arse remarks.
  9. I failed Operation Anniversary dismally.  And I feel ashamed.  But as MR E. decided that our overseas holiday I wanted for our 15th Anniversary should coincide with the RWC 2011 (and incidentally our 16th Anniversary) I thought I could extend Op Anniversary until then. But I need to kick start (aka restart) it.  I do think Number 1 is part of the reason that Op Anniversary didn’t progress very far.
  10. Rugby Union is pretty much the only sport I will watch of my own volition.  I have not watched any Commonwealth Games and generally ignore the majority of the Olympics when they are on too.  I may be considered un-Australian for this.  I may also get banished from my extended family if they knew. They are very sporty people, some of whom have played in sport for Australia.
  11. Our house is a mess.  It has been this way for quite a while and I am too embarrassed to have friends (or anyone) over.  I think part of the reason it is so messy is because I don’t like people invading my space and that’s how I feel when people are in my house.  Invaded, over run, etc. So I allow it to stay messy and therefore, free of visitors which, in my (also messy) head, apparently means safer.
  12. I did however start cleaning up today.  It’s a step in the right direction. Baby steps, right?
  13. I actually want to just put down smartarse responses now.  There only 2 to go now and it’s been much harder than I thought.
  14. While I am very private person, I actually enjoy blogging. I am envious of people who make lots of friends blogging.
  15. Finally, although I’d love to have lots of followers I really appreciate having followers who comment and who I ‘know’ through their comments and their blogs.
Yay, I made it!

Operation Anniversary – Update 1

It’s 4 weeks and 1 day since Operation Anniversary started. I haven't really mentioned how I am going on Op Anniversary.  Probably because for a while there I was going nowhere fast!

However, last week / weekend have actually started back on the exercise track.  I was on the treadmill 4 times in 5 days.  Walking along at 5 to 6 kph generally for 20 minutes.

Unfortunately, I haven't done that since Monday.  And healthy food options have gone out the window this week.  I guess finding out that Domino’s now have Gluten Free Pizza was probably my downfall.  I ordered and ate my first Pizza Chain pizza for the first time in almost 15 years!  And then had it again for the dinner the following night as well.  Plus today was a lunch out and even though I really truly had limited space I still ate ordered and ate desert.  But tonight will be cereal or toast for me.

This  week I bought a set of scales that have show you your percentage of body fat, Hydration level, BMI etc.  According to the new scales I weigh 1kg more than I did a month ago and have a body fat percentage 0f 35.1%.  Eeekk! What a wakeup call that is!

All I can say is I need to get motivated again!

I have felt odd this last week and my head seems to be all over the place.  I didn't even read blogs for a few days there! Normally I do it every day sometimes a few times a day.  I came in once to find 108 blog posts to read and a few days later there were 88.  So I’m sorry If I have missed anyone’s big events, I have just skimmed most of the blogs.

So….. plan of attack:

Treadmill this evening and at least 3 other days this week;

No more going out and if I do no more desert! I know it’s the rarity factor, but I’m an adult and can make better choices;

And finally: I will be listening to the weight loss hypnotherapy / motivational CDs everyday….which I didn’t do at all last week.

Wish me luck!

Oh and I'm joining Lucy's Bloghop.

Random thoughts in my messy head

Sorry I haven’t been posting much.  The cold I had is just a cough now which is thankfully no longer keeping me up until 3 am.  Maybe the cough medicine and cold and flu medications helped with that.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your thoughts about choosing High School for Boy Child.  We are almost there with our decision, I think.  While I haven’t taken up drinking I have thought about it!   But I have actually not eaten much chocolate either.  Which is a great thing given Operation Anniversary!  Of course I haven’t properly started with that yet.

The lovely Lucy has sent me some stuff to help with Op Anniversary.  Thanks very much to Lucy!  Check out Diminishing Lucy – you know you want to!

Girl Child was home from school again yesterday.  She came into us in the middle of the night with a headache and woke later with a tummy ache as well.  I’m actually wondering whether getting her adenoids removed last year was such a good thing.  So far this year she has missed at least  16 days of school due to illness.  And to me that is a lot.  Normally she would have the standard number of a few  colds a year some of which would turn into ear infections but she has never really been a sick child.  Maybe her oversized adenoids were protecting her?   Pure non medical thought there but I figure if they are part of her immune system maybe they were just huge because they were doing their job well.

I have scenario I would like some input on.  Two 11 year old (12 in August and September respectively) boys are delivering brochures into letterboxes.    Boy 1 is yours, the other is someone else's.  Boy 2 lives not far away (maybe 600 metres or so on a different street, 1 minute by car) and does have a mobile on him for safety.  It gets dark. The boys finish the deliveries and show up at your house.  Boy2’s parent rings and says “It’s dark. I will drive down and pick him up.” Boy 1’s Father says “No, don’t worry, we can bring him home. See you soon.” Nobody shows up for 10 minutes then Boy 2 arrives home by himself.

  • If Boy 2 said he was fine to get home in the dark, would you as a parent of Boy 1 let him go?
  • If you were a parent of Boy2 would you have preferred a phone call and walked down or driven down to get him?
  • Would the fact that Boy 2 was only wearing shorts and a T-shirt and it was 10 degrees C (about 50 F) have changed anything?

You can probably guess which parent I am but I will tell you later.

Operation Anniversary

Those who have been reading my blog for a while may remember my post on Lucy’s Giveaway. Unfortunately I didn’t win but that’s okay.
Yesterday I weighed myself and I have my starting weight. So I am giving myself 15 weeks to get my wedding ring on and in the process get fitter and healthier.  Hopefully I will  achieve some of my 101 in 1001 goals as well.
I want to go from this:
image
Not offence to any elephants intended.  You all look great but humans shouldn’t look like elephants.  Or to be more accurate, feel like them.
To something more like this:
image
But in reality the ultimate goal is to be able to wear my wedding ring by our 15th wedding anniversary in September. Getting fit, healthy and slimmer along the way is just the icing on the cake.
Despite Girl Child being home sick all week and now I’m getting sick as well, I think I’m in the right headspace for Operation Anniversary to be good to go.  I may not check in every week but I’ll be working away at it.
Plus I’m linking into to Lucy’s Fat to Fit Blog Hop in the hope I can get some inspiration from everyone else.
